Easy BBQ Sauce Recipe for Ribs

Ribs are so delicious grilled. While you can just use bottled barbecue sauce bought from the grocery store, adding a few little homemade touches or extras can make it so much better. Here's a tasty and easy BBQ sauce recipe for ribs - we use it on pork ribs, never tried on beef but it would probably be good on beef ribs too.

What You Need

Suitable for about 3.5 to 4 lbs of ribs.

  • 1/3 cup of tomato sauce
  • 3/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup of fresh lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup of Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp finely-chopped fresh garlic
  • 1 tbsp finely-chopped hot chile pepper (omit if you don't like spicy food)
  • 2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dry mustard
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

Combine everything and make sure it's well-blended.

To use, coat the ribs in the sauce and marinate overnight in the refrigerator. If you like, you can use a dry rub on the ribs first before marinating (for example, sometimes we rub with a Cajun spice mix first). Reserve a little of the sauce for basting the meat while it's on the barbecue.

Updated to add: sometimes people will ask us if they can use this recipe in a slow cooker instead ... well, yes you can, but then you lose that delicious grilled flavor of the ribs! If you want to do it anyways, just put the ribs in the slow cooker along with the sauce, and cook for 8 to 10 hours on low.

This is a fast and delicious BBQ sauce recipe for ribs, for those days you just don't feel like 'fussing' (... and just because it's so good, too). Check out our section on BBQ pork recipes.
